The trip in short
Three nights in Los Angeles for Disneyland and Universal Studios, then two in San Diego, with the sea lions of La Jolla and the famous zoo. In Joshua Tree kids scramble over the big round boulders. After a night in Las Vegas you wade the shallow Virgin River in Zion, and at Page you look into the slot of Antelope Canyon. Two nights at the rim of the Grand Canyon, for the Junior Ranger badge, and back to Vegas to fly home. Rarely more than four hours' drive a day: one of the family trips; in ten days without the kids' programme: the West in 10 days.
